A few more topic ideas:

1) Autoconf: This is a tool for making the configure files found in
source tarballs.
A knowledge of M4 (modula ?) is very handy for understanding autoconf,
and is an interesting language to know in general.

2)) Expect is another very good scripting language to know for
automating things one might normally run from a console or xterm
window. It can be a very handy sysadmin tool.

3) Setting up wireless networks:

a) discussion of 802.11b, 802.11g, 802.11n

b) setting up 802.11n (draft 2)

c) mixed modes or green field (ex 802.11n only)

d) coverage area, handling obstructions, multiple access points,
interference from other devices or networks

e) security considerations, etc

4) Screen utility: very handy for protecting console or xterm sessions
on unstable network connections, or moving terminal sessions from one
physical point to another.
