Once again, it is necessary to reschedule Databases: Distributed,
Federated, Partitioned and Broken!

http://www.meetup.com/buffalolab/events/176264362/)
<http://www.meetup.com/buffalolab/events/176264362/%29> "We apologize
for any inconvenience."

John Longanecker will be presenting GIS (Geographic Information System)
basics with PostGIS (http://postgis.net/). After he explains some of the
basics, he will get into writing some basic queries then move into
writing some more advanced queries. He will then share some tricks on
how to make these queries fast. He will provide a link to a virtual box
image that can be installed on any machine so people can follow along
and try their own queries. Watch for more details on this about a week
before the talk.

John is employed by NBT Solutions ( http://www.nbtsolutions.com/ ),
specialists in geospatial web applications. He has a degree in computer
science and a degree in media studies from the University at Buffalo.

This talk is still on Thursday, April 24, at 7:00 PM in room 110 of the
Knox Lecture Hall on the UB North Campus. Knox Lecture Hall is part of
the academic spine and is surrounded by Norton Hall, Bonner Hall, and
O'Brian Hall. It is near Founder's Plaza. The best places to park appear
to be Fronczak, Ketter, and Furnas. No permit is required after 3PM.
(I's great fun learning where all these buildings are on the campus,
isn't it?)

The Buffalo PASS group will be joining us once again.

We've been settling for light refreshments and will do the same.
*doolli* is our current sponsor.

In order to avoid conflicts with other database meetups and also events
at UB, I am scheduling the next two meetups for May 8 and June 19. More
details will appear soon.
